It’s no secret that Liverpool’s Michael Edwards is something of a shrewd operator in the transfer market.

When it comes to buying and selling, the Reds’ Director of Football is as savvy as they come.

When Liverpool have somebody who can sell Dominic Solanke for £20 million, you know that you have a gem.

But for his next trick, Edwards could reportedly pull off another unbelievable piece of business.

According to Il Sussidiario, the reigning European champions would include Dejan Lovren in a player-plus-cash deal for Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo.

With the football economy struggling due to the global health crisis, sporting directors around Europe are going to have to get creative to avoid shelling out tens of millions in outright deals.

Zaniolo, incidentally, is worth £50 million to the Italian giants, but if Liverpool can get the price knocked down by adding Lovren into the mix, a player that Jurgen Klopp doesn’t need, then it’ll kill two birds with one stone and reinforce Edwards’s reputation as one of the continent’s best negotiators in football.
