Liverpool have just completed their first signing of the summer by bringing Ibrahima Konate to Anfield.

But much more is needed in order for the Reds to wrestle the Premier League title back off Manchester City next season.

Liverpool’s defensive problems last term were well documented and Konate’s arrival, combined with the return of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, should make Jurgen Klopp’s side a lot tougher to score against next season.

But make no mistake about it, Klopp also has problems at the other end of the field, though if one rumour is true, the Anfield side’s director of football may have a bargain up his sleeve in this regard.

According to Calciomercato, Liverpool are interested in signing Hakan Calhanoglu this summer and have held talks about bringing him to England.

And if this one materialises, it’s going to be an absolute steal.

Another Michael Edwards bargain?

That’s because at 27, Calhanoglu is only coming into the prime of his career now.

Oh, and he’s available to sign for free as his AC Milan contract comes to an end.

The former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has close to 50 assists for the Italian giants over the past four seasons and his arrival would, in theory, help Liverpool’s front three.

Historically they haven’t needed much help, but Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino only managed 25 goals between them this past season and a playmaker of Calhanoglu’s vintage would certainly create chances for them.

Whether it’s incomings or outgoings, Michael Edwards has an extensive list of bargains under his belt during his time at Liverpool.

And if they complete a free transfer for Calhanoglu then maybe, just maybe, the Turkey international may be added to that list.
