Bukayo Saka won Arsenal’s Player of the Year for last season.
But if not for injuries, Kieran Tierney may have just scooped the award.
That’s because Tierney was exceptional for Arsenal throughout the campaign and at one stage was even Mikel Arteta’s most creative player.
And considering he’s a left-back, well that sort of summed up the creative issues that Arteta had in his team during the first half of the campaign before Emile Smith Rowe emerged and Martin Odegaard arived.
Still, Tierney showed enough to suggest he’s going to be a massive player for the Gunners over the coming years and if one report is true, Edu and Arteta are about to make a smart decision.
According to Football London, the former Celtic star, a £25 million signing two years ago, is set to be offered a contract extension.
And if and when it is signed, it’s a great piece of news.
Arsenal have just finished eighth in the Premier League for a second year in succession.
And the way Tierney has been playing, he could do better and no doubt that some big clubs in England and Europe will have been keeping a watchful eye over the player.
But signing a new deal would not only prove that the Scotland defender is happy at the Emirates Stadium, but it also protects Arsenal on the financial side of things.
At the moment he has three years left on his contract but a one or two-year extension ensure that if the Gunners do sell him at some point, it’ll be for much more than without him signing a new deal.
