Fabrizio Romano dropped an interesting development about Liverpool target Denis Zakaria earlier in the week.

The Italian journalist took to Twitter to reveal that the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder had fired his agent and hired a new one.

And with the Liverpool speculation already building prior to that, a transfer to Anfield seems very probable.

That’s because prior to Romano’s revelation, Liverpool were reported by Gazzetta to be favourites to sign the 25-year-old.

The only logical reason for changing up your management agency is for the sake of a transfer.

And the fact that Zakaria has hired a new representative, weeks after the speculation about Liverpool being in pole position, seems very significant indeed.

Of course, this cannot possibly be an exact science but logistically, the pieces are starting to put themselves together and a move to Anfield cannot be dismissed.

Paul Pogba regen

The Switzerland international has been likened to Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba for his style of play.

This is a label that Zakaria does not reject one bit, telling the Bundesliga website in 2018 that he agrees with the comparison.

It’s worth noting that Romano also claimed that Liverpool had made contact with Zakaria’s new agents to sound out a potential move to Mersyside.

It would take a brave person to bet on Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards signing anybody in January, with Ibrahima Konate their only pre-season recruit during the summer.

But Zakaria to Liverpool is certainly gathering momentum ahead of the transfer window re-opening.
