It was reported back in June that Rangers and Celtic were both looking at Aliou Traore.

According to France Football, the Manchester United prospect has fans in the form of both Old Firm giants.

Earlier this week, the 19-year-old admitted that although he wanted to make it work at Old Trafford, he could be forced to leave in search of first-team football.

And if he does find himself leaving, with both Scottish sides in for him, Rangers is definitely the better move than Celtic.

That’s because the Gers have a certain Steven Gerrard as manager and there’s doubt that Traore who’s been likened to Paul Pogba – would have grown up watching the iconic midfielder drag Liverpool to success on quite a few occasions.

Obviously Celtic boss Neil Lennon was a midfielder too, and not a bad one by any means, but Gerrard, a Champions League winner in 2005, was far and away the more distinguished footballer and the prospect of learning under the Englishman should absolutely thrill Traore.

In an interview this week, the youngster said to RMC Sport: “If I’m leaving, it’s for a professional group.”

This is a player clearly champing at the bit for men’s football and the reality is that he’d get a better education under the Rangers boss than he would at Lennoxtown.

If you’re a teenage midfielder, there really isn’t many better coaches to play under and learn from than Gerrard and if he has the choice between Celtic or Ibrox, it has to be the latter.
