Gary Hooper is a free agent after being released by Sheffield Wednesday.

Hull City must be tempted to sign former Sheffield Wednesday player Gary Hooper on a free transfer as their current striker woes could leave them in deep trouble come the end of the season.
The Tigers have made an indifferent start under manager Grant McCann. The 3-0 win at Luton Town last weekend was impressive, but it was only their second league win of the campaign.
In Kamil Grosicki and Jarrod Bowen they have two of the Championship’s best wide players. Between them, they scored 32 goals last season while Fraizer Campbell chipped in with double figures.
But Campbell’s exit in the summer left Hull without a top senior striker. Tom Eaves and Josh Magennis arrived in the summer, but neither have made much of an impact at the KCOM Stadium.
In fact, Hull have gone 10 games in all competitions this season without any of their centre-forwards scoring a goal in open play. It’s becoming a big problem, and an injury to either Bowen and Grosicki could be disastrous.
Hooper, however, may be a potential solution. The striker was released by Sheffield Wednesday in the summer, yet the former Celtic man still boasts plenty of quality at Championship level.

Hull boss Grant McCann recently told the Hull Daily Mail he is aware of Hooper’s availability as the club are looking at potential free agent signings. His strikers’ lack of goals may prompt him to really consider it.
Hooper, 31, grabbed 10 goals and three assists in 22 starts for the Owls last season. It was a surprise Wednesday allowed him to go, but their several striker options meant they could cover his absence.
Hull would no doubt improve with Hooper in their ranks. He is a step up on their current options, and his ability to find the net would surely relieve the pressure on the Tigers’ wide players.
