Eddie Howe has revealed that Bruno Guimaraes might not signal the end of Newcastle United’s January business.

Newcastle are widely reported to be on the brink of signing the Brazil midfielder in a £33 million deal.

Lyon had released a statement earlier this week rebuking the speculation that an arrangement had been agreed.

But now it does look very much like the Magpies will be signing the 24-year-old, will Howe revealing that a signing was close – without mentioning names.

However, Newcastle are also in the market for a central defender and had an £8 million offer for Dan Burn knocked back by Brighton & Hove Albion this week.

Asked about additional signings – after Guimaraes – Howe told The Chronicle: “From my perspective that wouldn’t be the end. Whether that turns into reality who knows? Things change very quickly in this window. It can be quite unpredictable in the last couple of days maybe happening as you’d expect.”

Dreamland

Newcastle supporters must be in dreamland – and rightly so.

To be able to spend close to £80 million on Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood and Guimaraes and still be in the market for additional players is quite exciting.

Howe’s outfit are 18th in the Premier League standings, one point adrift of safety.

If Guimaraes gets over the line – and it definitely should – then that’ll go such a long way toward preserving Newcastle’s safety.

Another one after the South American and well, there’s no telling how much better Howe’s side will get.
