Presumably, most players in the Championship dream of making that step up into the Premier League.
It’s where most players in England aspire to get to, and in Barry Douglas’ case, he’s managed to achieve promotion to the top-flight twice.
Not many footballers will be able to say that.
However, despite enjoying promotion on two occasions, the 31-year-old has sadly endured heartbreak following both Wolves and Leeds’ respective leaps into the Premier League.
Firstly, the Scotland international was one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s best players in the 2017/18 campaign. In eye-catching fashion, Douglas scored five goals and assisted 14 more from left-back, helping Wolves go up as champions.
Despite his heroics, the Glasgow-born defender was sold to Leeds just weeks later, as Wolves signed Spanish star Jonny Otto from Atletico Madrid.
Dusting himself down, Douglas worked hard to nail down a place in Marcelo Bielsa’s side, making 15 appearances as he won yet another Championship winners medal last term.
Heartbreakingly for the left-back however, lightning has struck twice.
Today, Douglas completed a season-long loan move to Blackburn Rovers, where he’ll spend the final year of his contract at Elland Road.
Leeds’ official website confirmed that his appearance against Hull in this season’s Carabao Cup was his last game for the Yorkshire-based outfit.
If anyone deserves a shot at life in the Premier League, it’s Douglas.
Sadly for him, it just doesn’t seem to go his way when promotion is achieved.
