If rumours are believed, Celtic are interested in Marcus Bettinelli.

According to The Daily Mail, the Hoops are considering a move for the £1 million goalkeeper, who currently plays for Fulham.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon only has Scott Bain by way of senior options after Fraser Forster left the club after his loan spell, and Craig Gordon was released.

And now Bettinelli is the latest in quite a long list of goalkeepers linked to Parkhead, and head of recruitment Nicky Hammond should definitely prioritise him over Vasilios Barkas.

The Bhoys have been quoted a hefty £5 million to sign AEK Athens’ Barkas, who might be a good player, but in reality that’s far too much to pay for an unknown keeper.

To put it into context, Celtic’s record transfer fee paid out is £9 million.

Bettinelli, on the other hand, is only £1 million, so saving the club £4 million and potentially signing a stronger keeper – who has over 100 league appearances for Fulham under his belt – might be the smarter move.

Celtic are going for 10-in-a-row next season, but they still need reinforcements.

And the more money Hammond can save, the more that’ll be available for other areas of the squad.
