According to Kicker, Liverpool are among the clubs interested in signing Florian Neuhaus from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2021.

Manchester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have also been named in the report in the German publication as clubs who have expressed interest in the 23-year-old midfielder.

The report has claimed that Neuhaus feels very much at home at Monchengladbach, who value the youngster a lot. However, the midfielder has a release clause of €40 million (£35.12 million), which is relatively low for a player of his potential.

According to WhoScored, Neuhaus has made 17 starts and two substitute appearances in the Bundesliga for Monchengladbach so far this season, scoring four goals and providing four assists in the process.

The 23-year-old has also played six times in the Champions League and has scored two goals in three DFB Pokal games this campaign, according to WhoScored.

What is interesting is that, according to WhoScored, the Germany international has played 20 times as a defensive midfielder and has featured as a central midfielder in three games.

In November 2018, Bundesliga.com compared the youngster to Bayern Munich and Germany great Thomas Muller, saying that both are ‘Raumdeuter” (space-interpreter)’.

The report claimed that although Neuhaus would normally line up in central midfield, he has a ‘distinct ability to find spaces between the lines’.

Liverpool do have a strong midfield and signed Thiago only in the summer of 2020. However, reported interest in Neuhaus suggests that he could be a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Netherlands international is out of contract at the defending Premier League champions at the end of the season, and with no new deal in place, it is looking likely that the 30-year-old will leave in the summer of 2021.

Wijnaldum is a very dynamic midfielder who, according to WhoScored, has made 25 starts this season in central midfield.

The Dutchman is a very good midfielder who drives forward and scores goals – he has found the back of the net twice in the league this season and scored four times in 2019-20, according to WhoScored – and Neuhaus could replace him in the team with success.

Wijnaldum cost Liverpool £25 million when they signed him from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016, according to BBC Sport, and if the Merseyside club’s sporting director Michael Edwards is able to bring in 23-year-old Neuhaus for just £10 million more, then it would be quite a coup.
