Has Liverpool’s Michael Edwards done it again? Very possibly.

The Reds’ Director of Football has an established reputation as being one of the best in the business with regards to transfers.

Not only have Liverpool pulled off some unbelievable signings for good value in recent seasons, but they’ve also offloaded quite a bit of deadwood for great money, like Jordon Ibe, Christian Benteke and Mamadou Sakho for example.

It’d be harsh to describe Dejan Lovren as deadwood, because he’s just won the Premier League title, but Edwards might be set to pick up a bargain fee for him too.

According to Sky Sports, the Croatian defender is set to join Zenit St Petersburg in a £10.8 million deal.

That was a decent bit of business before the global health crisis – now it’s potentially a great deal.

Financially, these are uncertain times and the true cost of behind-closed-doors games is yet to be revealed, especially as there’s no concrete date as to when fans can return to Anfield.

With that in mind, picking up that sum of money for Lovren, the weakest of Liverpool’s four centre-backs and one who’s just turned 31, could be an inspired piece of business.

Given how savvy Edwards is, Liverpool – who signed Andy Robertson for £7 million, for example – could do some really good work with almost £11 million from the prospective Lovren sale.

And it’ll only reinforce Edwards’s reputation as a superb negotiator.
