Liverpool are starting to clear quite a lot of their deadwood.
This week has seen Marko Grujic and Taiwo Awoniyi leave the Reds.
And according to Goal.com, Harry Wilson is set to follow the duo as he prepares to join Fulham in what will be a £12 million deal.
If and when that goes through, it’ll act as a reminder over how good Michael Edwards is at his job.
It’s no secret that the Liverpool man is one of the most efficient sporting directors around.
Whether it’s buying players or selling them, Edwards is known for getting Liverpool the best deal possible and when Wilson goes through, he’ll have brought in close to £30 million for three squad players, if you can even call them that.
Grujic and Awoniyi fetched a total of £17 million and with the Anfield side set to pick up £12 million for Wilson, it’s a phenomenal bit of business.
It’s even more impressive when you consider the fact that Wilson, Grujic and Awoniyi have a combined eight Premier League appearances between them for Liverpool – and the latter is responsible for all of them.
Wilson has only ever made two senior appearances [both in the League Cup] and Awoniyi never managed a competitive debut due to work permit issues.
So to pocket £29 million for Liverpool on the back of those three sales is a bit of a masterstroke from Edwards.
It’s a bit of a cliche at this point to say ‘Edwards has done it again’ but the fact that that is a phrase in itself speaks volumes.
