Let’s face it, any spare money that Liverpool can muster from player sales this month is a major bonus.
And honestly, £15 million is quite a big chunk of money for someone who simply isn’t an integral member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad on Merseyside.
Phillips is undeniably a good central defender and one who the German manager praised regularly during 2021, having deputised brilliantly following their injury crisis last season.
But there’s no denying that the Bolton-born powerhouse is quite simply a squad player at Anfield.
And making eight figures on a squad player – not to mention one developed from the academy – has to be considered a blinding piece of business by Edwards, providing Phillips is sold for that figure.
