It could be a big summer for Liverpool.

The Reds booked their spot in next season’s Champions League last week following a win over Crystal Palace.

That guaranteed Liverpool a top-four finish after Jurgen Klopp’s side pulled off five successive Premier League wins during the month of May.

And their participation in next season’s competition could, in theory, make it a little easier to sign players – and they have already started with a £36 million addition of Ibrahima Konate.

But Press Association Sport has reported that Liverpool have ‘limited finances’ and will therefore focus a lot of their attention on keeping the players they already have.

And the report adds that the Anfield club will spend much of the summer planning new contracts for Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Fabinho, Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

A little has been written about Alisson and Fabinho getting new contracts this week but there hasn’t been a lot reported of Alexander-Arnold and Robertson.

The Liverpool full-backs are both out of contract on Merseyside in 2024 and given their age – 22 and 27 respectively – it makes complete sense to try secure their best years in the form of new deals.

All six played a massive role in the club’s Premier League and Champions League success over the past two years.

And although it’d be a cliche to suggest contract extensions would be like new signings, but it’s the core of the team and securing their futures for years to come can only be a massive positive.

Liverpool fans would love six new signings, but tying down these six – particularly Salah – would also be huge.
