The mini saga over Joe Willock’s future at Arsenal looks close to being settled.
Willock has been linked with a move to Newcastle United all summer, after having a stunning half-season loan in the North East last term.
And according to 90 Min, Arsenal and Newcastle have agreed a £25 million fee for the player.
And if true, it’ll be a fine bit of business by Edu in North London.
Bargain
He might have scored eight Premier League goals for the Magpies last summer but Mikel Arteta, despite what he says publicly, has no intention of using the player and never has done.
Arteta gave Willock only 234 minutes of Premier League football last term prior to his loan to St James’s Park, the equivalent of 2.6 full matches.
And the truth is that he isn’t going to fare much better this season, with Arsenal having signed Albert Sambi Lokonga and Granit Xhaka staying at the Emirates Stadium – not to mention the extreme likelyhood of a James Maddison or Houssem Aouar arriving yet.
The 21-year-old has never been and will never be anything more than a squad player for the North Londoners so long as the Spaniard is in charge, and few can deny that £25 million for somebody with a little over 10 league starts is really good business.
