Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang might’ve signed a new deal at Arsenal this week, but another striker could be on his way.
Nineteen-year-old Folarin Balogun is out of contract with the Emirates Stadium club next summer.
And Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder confirmed this morning that he has asked Arsenal about signing the promising hitman.
According to The Daily Mail, the Blades have made a £3 million offer but the Gunners are reportedly holding out for an eye-watering £15 million.
Balogun is a big talent, one who scored 10 goals in 15 games for the Under-23s last season.
But Edu, the North London club’s transfer guru following Raul Sanllehi’s exit earlier this week, is reportedly going to make a very intelligent decision.
If Arsenal do sell Balogun, Goal reports that a ‘hefty sell-on’ clause will be included in the deal, meaning that if Balogun goes on to tear up the Premier League for the Yorkshire club one day, and United then sell him for a big profit, the North Londoners will be entitled to a chunk of the money.
The report doesn’t add what percentage Edu wants in the deal.
Arsenal won’t get £15 million for a player who hasn’t played a minute of senior football in his career, but if they can meet in the middle and get around £8 million, with that ‘hefty’ clause, then it has to be considered a blinding bit of business for the Gunners.
It’s big money up front for such an inexperienced and yet very talented player – and the sell-on clause is insurance that if he does make it big, more money will come.
