Arsenal’s transfer record under Edu as their main man in this department is a little chequered to say the very least.
For every Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Magalhaes or Ben White, there’s also a Willian, a Pablo Mari and an Alex Runarsson.
However, if Edu’s latest transfer plan comes to fruition, it’ll be his finest masterstroke yet at Arsenal – and one that could potentially transform the Emirates Stadium outfit.
According to Corriere della Sera, the Gunners have lodged a creative offer to sign Fiorentina sensation Dusan Vlahovic.
Everyone knows that the 21-year-old Serbian hitman is very much on Arsenal’s radar because, truthfully, this is one of Europe’s most exciting young number nines, perhaps second only to Erling Haaland when it comes to talent.
The report from Italy claims Arsenal have offered £50 million but, crucially, Edu has also thrown in a certain Lucas Torreira.
The Uruguay international has impressed in a big way since joining the Italian outfit on a season-long loan last summer.
And if the North Londoners could get Vlahovic to the Emirates for £50 million and Torreira in a player-plus-cash agreement then it’ll be such a stunning piece of business.
That’s because Torreira has literally zero future at Arsenal and if Edu can offload a fringe player by using him as a makeweight to help bring a world-class young marksman then it’s genius.
Yes, £50 million is still a lot of money, but this is a player with 19 goals from 23 outings across all competitions this season.
If he comes to England and rips up the Premier League like he is Serie A then in a few short years he could be easily worth well over double that.
As an investment, in financial and football terms, Vlahovic’s ceiling for return is honestly frightening and Edu’s transfer record will be looked upon far more favourably if he gets this over the line.
