The name Houssem Aouar may fill some Arsenal fans with dread.
Not because he’s a bad player by any means, or not because he has once tormented the Gunners on the field.
But this is a player who Arsenal spent all summer last year trying to sign, before ultimately conceding defeat.
However, if one rumour is true then it could be back on this time around and on this occasion, the North Londoners may get their man – and for an absolute bargain.
Masterstroke
According to Le10 Sport, Arsenal have lodged a £17 million bid to sign the Lyon playmaker, who seems open to the idea of leaving the Ligue 1 side this summer.
And if Edu picks him up for that amount or anywhere close to that amount, it has to be considered an absolute steal.
Remember, the Emirates Stadium side had two bids rejected for the 23-year-old last summer, when Lyon were demanding £45 million.
So if Arsenal can sign him this time around, for potentially £28 million less than that, then it can only be a massive bargain.
We’re talking about a player who is still only 23, a player labelled ‘incredible‘ by Pep Guardiola in 2018.
Anything under £20 million is a steal, but even more so because of what Arsenal refused to pay 12 months ago.
