According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic winger Michael Johnston is facing a spell on the sidelines, and that opens the door for his teammate Scott Sinclair.

It has been reported that having pulled out of the Scotland Under-21 squad to face San Marino and Croatia after being injured against Rangers at Ibrox last weekend, Johnston could be out for a while, and that means Sinclair comes back into the picture.

The 20-year-old has established himself as a key figure in the Celtic team this season and has been playing regularly for the Hoops.

Stats

The winger has played four times in the Champions League qualifiers, twice in the Europa League qualifiers and thrice in the Scottish Premiership for the Bhoys so far this season, according to WhoScored.

In contrast, Sinclair has made only one substitute appearance in the Scottish Premiership and three substitute appearances in the Champions League qualifiers for Neil Lennon’s side, according to WhoScored.

Celtic stay

Sinclair was linked with a move away from the Hoops on transfer deadline day, with The Northern Echo claiming of interest from Sunderland in League One in England.

Nothing materialised, and the 30-year-old is still at Celtic, and perhaps now he will get the chance at Celtic Park.

Back in the picture

Of course, it is not yet clear for how long Johnston will be on the sidelines, but the door has certainly opened for Sinclair to stake a claim in the team.

The former Aston Villa star may not have been at his best for a while, but there is no doubt that he is a superb footballer who is an asset for Celtic.

If Sinclair gets going, then he will be hard to stop and Celtic fans will hope that he gets back to his best soon.
