BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 23: Douglas Luiz of Villa looks back during the Premier League match between Aston Villa and Leeds United at Villa Park on October 23, 2020 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Sporting stadiums around the UK remain under strict restrictions due to the Coronavirus Pandemic as Government social distancing laws prohibit fans inside venues resulting in games being played behind closed doors. Whilst they have gone under the radar outside of their respective clubs, both Aston Villa’s defensive rock, Douglas Luiz and Leeds United’s attacking technician, Jack Harrison are two of the most improved and underrated stars in the Premier League today.

The latter is on-loan at Leeds from Manchester City, whilst Luiz left the Etihad Stadium for Villa Park last summer on a permanent basis.

But could they reunite next summer?

Whilst Leeds fans will be hoping to sign up Harrison on a permanent deal in the near future, he may well find himself back at his parent club next season and potentially being part of a Pep Guardiola re-build.

But could Villa’s number six join him? It’s suggested [Birmingham Mail] that Man City have a two-year buy-back clause in Luiz’s contract, and given Fernandinho’s age and Rodri’s continued poor form, that door may knock next summer.

Either way, Villa fans should be worried because on paper it does seem as though Luiz would be needed by Man City next summer, as would the attacking talents of Harrison, who has created the fourth most chances in the Premier League this season behind only Bruno Fernandes, Kevin de Bruyne and current leader, Jack Grealish.

Of course, if both players can stay at their current clubs for the long-term then it would be a serious boost to their supporters and their future ambitions.

Whilst Kalvin Philips is Leeds’ most important player, the club needs the pieces to the jigsaw which will hopefully one day land them back competing at the top.

The same applies for Villa, who have star man, Grealish, running the show every week, but he once again needs Luiz to be part of the club’s long-term plans.

If that can happen in the Midlands instead of Manchester then a European tour might be on the cards during these coming seasons.
