Tottenham reportedly want to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer, while Maurizio Sarri’s side are keen on outcast Sergio Reguilon – so could a player-plus-cash deal be done to strike a deal for both parties?
Milinkovic-Savic,, 27, has been in incredible form for Lazio over the years. Arguably one of Serie A’s best midfielders, the Spain-born Serbia international has had a hand in 111 goals from 296 games in all competitions for the club.
Reports claim that Milinkovic-Savic is a target for Tottenham. The article says that Spurs are tabling an offer for the midfielder, believed to be an initial £38million plus £13million in add-ons. But they have a chance to reduce that fee.
Spurs have already spent well over £100million on Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence and Destiny Udogie. They have only brought in loan fees for Gio Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele, and £25million for Steven Bergwijn.
So, if they have the chance to reduce the outlay on Milinkovic-Savic, they should really take it. Especially, as it would see them get rid of one of their fringe players in Reguilon. Reports claim that Lazio want the Tottenham left-back.
Could Tottenham strike player-plus-cash deal for Milinkovic-Savic?
Tottenham could do with another midfielder. They have Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma. Oliver Skipp continues to struggle with injury. But among the four players, they lack a real goal threat.
Hojbjerg did score against Chelsea, but it was a shot from outside the box. Milinkovic-Savic would give Tottenham a player that can do the dirty work from deep. But also add goals and assists – relieving the pressure on the front three.
Spurs need to get rid of Reguilon and if Lazio want him, and Spurs are serious about Milinkovic-Savic, then it makes sense. Perhaps, a fee of around £35million to £40million and Reguilon, could convince Sarri and Lazio.
