If rumours are believed, Tottenham Hotspur’s first signing of the January transfer window is going to be a big one.

Well, in terms of physical stature anyway.

Tottenham are, according to The Daily Mail, set to purchase Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore.

According to the report, there is a ‘strong possibility’ that the Lilywhites secure a transfer for the Spanish powerhouse.

If it materialises, Spurs will pay around £20 million for the 25-year-old attacker but, glancing at his statistics, he could be another Erik Lamela in North London.

End product

Tottenham supporters may argue that signing another version of the Argentina international is a positive thing.

However, the Sevilla winger was more a cult figure among the fanbase, rather than somebody unanimously loved by every Spurs supporter.

The reason for dividing opinion is because Lamela only managed 17 goals and 23 assists in 177 Premier League outings.

Interestingly, Traore has only mustered seven goals and 14 assists in 158 top-flight English appearances.

A lack of end product is what held Lamela back at Tottenham more than anything else, but he’s actually more productive than the Wanderers attacker – and that should worry fans of the North London club.

They already have a wide option who doesn’t score or assist in the form of Steven Bergwijn, so swapping one for another is frankly senseless.

A transfer to Tottenham looks like it’s going to happen but despite being faster and stronger than everyone else in the division, Traore is incapable of optimising his physical advantage and therefore, it’ll be a questionable signing.
