Celtic are in the market for a left back before the October transfer deadline, and they have been linked with a whole host of options.

One player touted for a move to Celtic was Paris Saint-Germain ace Mitchel Bakker, with the Dutchman believed to be a top target for the Bhoys.

Sky Sports reported earlier this month that PSG had rejected a loan offer from Celtic, but were still open to discussing a deal.

Celtic haven’t managed to sign another left back since then, and have actually offloaded Boli Bolingoli to Basaksehir – but a deal for Bakker now appears to be off the table.

Firstly, PSG left back Layvin Kurzawa has been banned for six games, due to his part in a brawl between PSG and Marseille earlier this month.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, fellow left back Juan Bernat has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament, meaning he is likely to miss the rest of the season.

PSG are now two left backs down, and Bakker subsequently started in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Nice, meaning it now appears to be his position to lose.

The Dutchman, 20, only managed five first-team appearances last season following his move from Ajax to PSG, but now has a chance to nail down a first-team spot and prove that he can be their future left back moving forward.

The French giants can’t really afford to let Bakker go now, so Celtic’s already slim hopes appear to be over already, meaning Neil Lennon and co need to look elsewhere.
