Celtic supporters are reportedly on the verge of getting a surprise signing.
Eighteen-year-old striker Johnny Kenny was supposed to be the Hoops’ last piece of transfer business in January, regarding arrivals.
Celtic signed Kenny from Sligo Rovers last week.
And afterwards, Bhoys manager Ange Postecoglou insisted that there’d be nobody else coming to Parkhead – unless ‘something extraordinary’ presented itself.
The Australian trainer said: “Unless something extraordinary comes along or something happens within the existing squad that means we need to move but, as we speak right now, there is no other offers or people I have spoken to.”
It appears as if that was something of a red herring from Postecoglou because widespread reports have indicated that Celtic – who have signed four players this winter – are on the cusp of a ffith addition.
According to Sky Sports, Matt O’Riley has passed a medical with the Lennoxtown outfit and will join from MK Dons for an initial £1,500,000, not including add-ons.
Postecoglou has lost star attacker Kyogo Furuhashi to injury in recent days but, with O’Riley being a midfielder, it seems unlikely that the two developments are in any way connected.
Major coup for Celtic
The 21-year-old has netted seven League One goals for the English club this season and no doubt goals from this position will help the Scottish Premiership team.
Sky added that an array of other clubs – like Blackburn Rovers and West Brom in the Championship and Anderlecht of Belgium – were also in the running to sign O’Riley.
So if Celtic can pip Championship clubs and outfits like Anderlecht then, well, it’s safe to say that this is a player who excites people at Celtic and maybe, just maybe, this falls under the category of what Postecoglou considers ‘extraordinary’.
