Barcelona have reportedly joined Real Madrid in the race to sign Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney, having compiled ‘good reports’ on the Scottish ace. But Barca signing Tierney might prove to be a concern for Tottenham.
Tierney, 25, was initially linked with Real Madrid earlier this month – a report from El Espanol claiming Madrid were considering Tierney as a replacement for Marcelo. The Brazilian is out of contract in the summer.
Now, Cule Mania report Barcelona are also keen – having watched Tierney. Whether Tierney could be tempted with a move to Madrid or Barcelona remains to be seen – but the latter might cause an issue for Tottenham.
Indeed, a move to the Nou Camp would see Real Madrid miss out on their top option to replace Marcelo. What they do still have under their sleeve, is a £43million clause to re-sign Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham this summer.
Tierney swapping Arsenal for Barca could see Reguilon leave Tottenham
The same report from El Espanol says Reguilon is on Madrid’s radar after a decent couple of seasons at Spurs – following his £28million move to Tottenham. Football London report that Madrid have a buyback clause.
They say that Reguilon was able to be re-signed by Madrid for £15million more than they paid in the summer of 2021, or 2022. That remains active this summer. Tierney, though, remains the number one option for Real.
But if Barcelona win the race for Tierney – a likelihood, given Arsenal and Barcelona did business recently regarding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, then Madrid could turn their attention to Spain international Reguilon.
It would be a blow for Tottenham. Ryan Sessegnon was excellent of Saturday, but Reguilon is without doubt, first choice. He is perfect for Antonio Conte’s system. But he would be tempted with a Madrid return.
