Alfredo Morelos can’t stop scoring for Scottish Premiership challengers Rangers – Premier League Aston Villa will struggle to sign him in January.

Each time Alfredo Morelos bullies a defender to the ground before beating a helpless goalkeeper with a whipcrack of his trusty right boot, his reputation and his price tag increases ever higher.

With 16 goals to his name already this season, the Rangers talisman could match the tally from his impressive debut campaign at Ibrox before the end of October. His 2018/19 total of 30 also appears to be under threat after an outstanding run of form both at home and abroad with Morelos matching a much-improved disciplinary record with a series of match-winning displays.

The downside for Rangers, however, is that Morelos is almost guaranteed to have clubs from south of the border smelling blood. Somewhat inevitably, The Sun reports that Premier League duo Aston Villa and Crystal Palace sent scouts to Tynecastle to watch the Colombian hitman score yet again in a 1-1 draw with Hearts.

The report adds that Palace and Villa are hopeful that £20 million would be enough to tempt Rangers into a mid-season sale. Though they are likely to be disappointed.

Steven Gerrard has never missed a chance to point out that Morelos would only be sold over his cold, dead body and, with the former HJK Helsinki striker firing Rangers into title contention for the first time in almost a decade, the Liverpool legend will be more determined than ever to keep his goalscoring talisman.

Now, Aston Villa have money to burn these days and broke their transfer record not once but twice this summer, eventually paying £26 million for Tyrone Mings (talkSPORT). But the chances are they only a bid in excess of £26 million will convince Rangers to part with a man capable of turning their dreams of a 55th Scottish Premiership title into a reality.

Money talks and Villa will have to pay up or shut up.
