Aston Villa could have a clear run at signing a Tottenham Hotspur player after another apparently interested club acquired an alternative.
Both Aston Villa and Fulham are said to have held a tentative interest in Paulo Gazzaniga ahead of next month’s transfer deadline (Daily Mail).
And Tottenham, it is claimed, would listen to offers for the Argentine goalkeeper, after hiring Joe Hart in his position (Evening Standard).
Gazzaniga, though, is not the only option being considered by Villa and Fulham, who confirmed the arrival of Alphonse Areola, the France international, on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
But the Villans’ pursuit of Emi Martinez, another Argentine ‘keeper, who plays for Tottenham’s local rivals, Arsenal, appears to be proving less successful.

Their £15 million offer is said to be £5m short of Arsenal’s valuation of the player (Daily Mail).
And, while it is claimed that Aston Villa will up their bid for Martinez, it remains to be seen how far they will go.
With Fulham, seemingly, out of the equation, though, it may be worth switching targets to Gazzaniga.
