Arsenal got some terrible news earlier this week.

It was reported that Mohamed Elneny had contracted the virus that has swept the globe in 2020 and as a result will be out of commission for the Gunners for a couple of weeks.

The former Basel midfielder is self-isolating in Cairo after picking it up on international duty with Egypt.

This isn’t ideal for Arsenal because Elneny has, rather surprisingly, been one of the team’s most consistent performers this season and somebody like him will definitely be missed at Leeds United this weekend.

His absence does, however, open the door for Mikel Arteta to bring Dani Ceballos back in.

The Spaniard hasn’t started a Premier League game for Arsenal since the defeat by Leicester City, in which he was constantly being shouted by Arteta on the sidelines [Football London].

With Thomas Partey also struggling for injury, Granit Xhaka is most likely to replace him but Ceballos could and definitely should come in for Elneny.

Arteta could yet spring a surprise because there’s no doubt Joe Willock is pushing for Premier League minutes after his Europa League heroics this season.

But even without the fans there, Elland Road isn’t a good starting point for the young Englishman and Ceballos, who played a big role in helping Arsenal to FA Cup glory last season, is certainly the best option.
