It’s probably fair to say that Arsenal really haven’t replaced Aaron Ramsey.
The Wales international left Arsenal on a free transfer during the summer of 2019 and although some midfielders have been signed – like Dani Ceballos – none have been as effective as the 29-year-old.
But Ramsey’s long-term role at Juventus is under some threat amid a report that the Italian giants are keen to re-sign Paul Pogba next summer.
And if that materialises, the Gunners should look at re-signing their own former son.
Let’s face it, if Pogba winds up returning to Turin then it can only be a bad thing for the former Cardiff City youngster, who spent 11 years at the Emirates Stadium.
Ramsey isn’t your archetypal playmaker, but Arsenal, who had scored four goals in their previous six games before this past Thursday, have some creative problems and with Mesut Ozil looking like he’s on borrowed time in North London, Mikel Arteta is going to need somebody like this.
Plus, the Spanish manager is already a big fan after playing alongside him at Arsenal over a four-year period.
Back in the 2013-14 season, which saw Ramsey score 16 times from midfield, Arteta said via Vavel: “Aaron is on fire. When you have a player like that coming from midfield to score that many goals, it gives you something extra.
“We don’t really have a 30 or 40-goal player at the moment so to have players who can score from the middle of the park is very important.”
If Arteta was in charge, Ramsey simply wouldn’t have been allowed to leave and maybe, just maybe, Arsenal should look at bringing him back next year.
