Football.London reported last week (October 8) that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.
The Gunners reportedly wanted to sign the Frenchman in the summer transfer window, but nothing materialised, but the North London club are still keen on the 22-year-old.
Given how good Edouard is and his record for the Hoops – he has scored four goals and provided one assist in seven Scottish Premiership games so far this season, while in 2019-20 he found the net 21 times and gave 12 assists in the league and in 2018-19 he scored 15 goals and provided six assists in the league, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk – there is no surprise that Arsenal are reportedly interested in him.
However, speculation regarding Edouard is a worry for Alexandre Lacazette, and it is very likely that the Gunners are looking at the Celtic star as a potential replacement for his French compatriot.
According to Football.London, Arsenal did not receive any bid for the 29-year-old, and the Premier League club have not opened talks with him over a new contract, with his current deal running out in the summer of 2022.
Lacazette is 29 years of age at the moment, and with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the obvious number one striker and Eddie Nketiah coming through, the Gunners may want to move on the Frenchman and find a younger replacement.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has publicly praised the former Lyon star, telling The Mirror in September 2020 that he is a player he is “really happy with”, but from a business perspective, it would make sense to sell an older striker and bring in a new and potentially better one.
Edouard is only going to be get better, and given his all-round game, he is ready for the Premier League, and the Gunners may not want to miss out on him.
However, with Celtic aiming to make it 10 Scottish Premiership titles in a row this season and also in the Europa League, the Glasgow giants are unlikely to entertain any offers for Edouard in January, but perhaps next summer they could be receptive to the idea of cashing in on the youngster.
