It’s fair to say that Alex Runarsson’s move to Arsenal isn’t proving to be a fairytale story so far.
The 25-year-old joined the Gunners from Dijon this past summer but is yet to play in the Premier League.
Runarsson deactivated his social media accounts in December following an error in a League Cup defeat by Manchester City following some abuse from Arsenal fans.
Yep, the Iceland international has had a difficult few months – but it could be about to get worse.
According to The Mirror, [03/01, page 73], the North Londoners are lining up a move for QPR goalkeeper Seny Dieng, who has played 20 Championship games this season.
The report adds that Arsenal are joined by Leeds United and Crystal Palace in the race to sign the Swiss keeper and it just doesn’t inspire confidence in Runarsson if the rumour is true.
If Mikel Arteta and Edu are genuinely keen on Dieng then it might suggest that they’ve had second thoughts over bringing in Runarsson already.
It’s worth pointing out that it’s still very early days for the Arsenal newbie, but if he’s demoted to third-choice then winning over the fans – and Arteta – is going to be so much more difficult.
