Speculation is mounting that Arsenal are keen on a certain Douglas Luiz.

The Aston Villa midfielder has proven himself in the Premier League these past couple of years since joining in a £15 million deal.

And according to ESPN, Arsenal are interested in the 23-year-old.

If the Gunners to wind up signing him, it looks like it’ll be as a replacement for Ainsley Maitand-Niles.

The Arsenal academy product is heavily linked with a transfer to Roma but you have to say – what an upgrade this could be for the North Londoners.

As good as Maitland-Niles is, he’s never really bolted down a regular position at Arsenal.

He is their Mr Versatile but because he’s a midfielder by trade, that’s where he’d been playing this season.

But Luiz, as a midfielder, is just next level.

You need only consider the fact he’s made 83 Premier League appearances in two-and-a-bit years to know he’s very capable in this division.

And there’s just no question that if Arsenal get him, as a replacement for the Roma-bound player, then it’s a serious upgrade for the Gunners.
