David Ornstein of The Athletic reported Arsenal’s interest in Ben White on Friday – and it may benefit Tottenham Hotspur.
According to Ornstein, Arsenal are keen on the Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back.
The Gunners might need additional support in defence this summer while question marks remain over William Saliba’s future in North London, with David Luiz also set to leave.
And their North London rivals Tottenham may benefit if Mikel Arteta and Edu focus on White.
That’s because The Telegraph claimed in May that Arsenal and Spurs both wanted relegated defender Joachim Andersen, who failed to keep Fulham in the Premier League during his loan from Lyon.
And if Arsenal are now chasing White then maybe it makes a wee passage for the Lilywhites to get Andersen, who stands at 6’4.
The 25-year-old Dane – valued at £20 million – is a good defender but he won’t have too many huge clubs banging down Lyon’s door to get him, given that he was loaned to the Cottagers in the first place.
And if Arsenal are out of the race – assuming they were ever in it – then that certainly is a bit of a boost for their city rivals.
