Arsenal have been linked to a dozen or so midfielders in January.
The biggest one was Arthur Melo of Juventus, but unfortunately for the Gunners, it looks extremely unlikely that he’ll be joining in the next six hours of the transfer window.
Another one Arsenal missed out on was Bruno Guimaraes, who joined Newcastle United in a £40 million deal on Sunday.
The North Londoners absolutely need to bolster their midfield options, having already loaned out Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Even before that, Arsenal needed a midfielder.
Now they definitely do but time is very much against the Emirates Stadium outfit.
And based on a shock development from Glasgow, Rangers’ Glen Kamara could be considered a late option for Arsenal.
Return
Kamara has already left London Colney once, having been released in 2017 under Arsene Wenger and then joined Dundee.
From there, he secured a £50,000 transfer to Rangers and has established himself as one of the Gers’ most influential players.
According to 90 min two weeks ago, Arsenal have extensively scouted the player with a view toward bringing him back to North London.
And with Rangers set to sign Aaron Ramsey on loan from Juventus, well the timing might be right for the Gunners to pull the trigger on re-signing the Finland international.
Kamara and Ramsey are very similar footballers and if anybody plays less as a result of the Welshman coming to Scotland, it’ll be him.
Logically you would think that if Arsenal couldn’t sign a midfielder in 31 days then how are they suddenly going to get one over the line within six hours.
But on deadline day, real life is almost on fast forward and things like this can happen extremely quickly.
If it’s looking like Arteta and Edu won’t find their Arthur and Bruno alternative, a call should be made to Ibrox.
