Well, Juan Foyth to Leeds United might not be happening after all.
It was reported by Clarin earlier this month that Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa was set to sign the out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur defender.
The report claimed that the Championship leaders wanted Foyth – an £8 million signing by Spurs in 2017 – on a season-long loan for the 2020-21 campaign.
But that looks to be in serious, serious jeopardy now.
According to TNT Sport, the 22-year-old defender is sidelined with a knee problem and the club are waiting to see if they need to operate on it or not.
If he needs surgery, Foyth is bound to be sidelined for quite a while and with what’s happening with Jean-Kevin Augustin at the moment, are Leeds really going to take a chance by signing another player with a question mark over his fitness? Probably not.
The Elland Road club undeniably need centre-backs, because Ben White will go back to Brighton and Gaetano Berardi will potentially be released, leaving Liam Cooper as their only senior centre-half.
They’ll certainly sign some bodies for that position – especially if and when they’re back in the Premier League – but if Foyth goes under the knife then you have to assume Leeds will scrap plans to sign him.
