The writing looks to be on the wall for Alex Runarsson at Arsenal.
The Iceland international has been linked with a move away from the Gunners, despite only joining last summer.
And it looks very much like he could be off after Mikel Arteta’s decision on Friday.
Arsenal kicked off their Premier League campaign with a trip to Brentford last night and there was no sign of Runarsson on the bench.
Instead, Arteta named 19-year-old rookie goalkeeper Karl Jakob Hein among the substitutes and the fact that he was included over Runarsson – a £1.5 million signing by Edu – speaks absolute volumes.
Runarsson’s move to Altay broke down toward the end of July and now it remains to be seen what happens, with only a few weeks left in the summer transfer window.
But one thing is for sure: he is absolutely finished in North London and Arteta’s decision to include Hein over him last night is a massive indicator of that.
Harsh?
And in a way, it’s a little harsh.
Barring an error-strewn performance against Manchester City in the League Cup, the 26-year-old has had virtually no chance against English opposition.
Nevertheless, it seems like Arteta’s mind is firmly made up and time will tell whether the Icelandic stopper gets a move away.
