It’s probably fair to assume that Davinson Sanchez is low on confidence as a Tottenham Hotspur player.
The Colombia international hasn’t made a Premier League appearance since the 3-3 draw with West Ham United, in which Spurs conceded three goals in the final eight minutes.
That right there is a good indication that Sanchez isn’t favoured by Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho right now, which can’t be great for his morale.
But worryingly, he could return to North London in a much worse way in terms of confidence.
That’s because the South American, a £42 million signing in 2017, was on the receiving end of a 6-1 demolition by Ecuador last night.
And even worse, the 24-year-old didn’t cover himself in glory at times during the game, failing to cut out the simple cross which led to the third goal.
Sanchez, as mentioned, probably left for international duty with a confidence issue after losing his place under Mourinho.
But he’s going to return a lot more broken in that respect and Mourinho’s side face Manchester City next weekend.
If he’s able to, Mourinho will continue with Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld in central defence.
But if a situation materialises where he can’t use one of them, you wonder whether the Portuguese would genuinely Japhet Tanganga or Joe Rodon ahead of Sanchez, who earns £65,000 per week.
The effects of last night’s performance just can’t be good.
