Arsenal have been clearing out the deadwood in recent weeks and Tottenham Hotspur might’ve scuppered their chances of getting rid of another player.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Torino are in advanced negotiations to sign Spurs loanee Gedson Fernandes, who the Lilywhites could’ve signed for £42 million.

But Portuguese starlet has barely played for Tottenham this season but instead of sending him back to Benfica, it looks like he’s heading to Italy.

And this is bad news for Arsenal because that very club are the same ones who have been desperate to sign Lucas Torreira.

The Gunners midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the Turin club during the summer and in December, Mundo Deportivo reported that they still wanted him.

And with Torreira and Gedson being a similar type of midfielder, there is simply no need to go after the former if the Tottenham loanee is signed.

The former Sampdoria star, a £26 million signing by Arsenal in 2018, is struggling during a loan with Atletico Madrid – who aren’t obligated to sign him outright this summer – and Edu suggested that he could be recalled this month if he was unhappy [AS].

The North Londoners’ goal with Torreira is to sell him permanently and make back as much money as they can.

And given how keen Torino were, it was much better for Arsenal if he went there rather than anywhere else this month – if he’s recalled from Madrid – but because of Gedson, that looks unlikely now.
