Our View: 29-year-old Liverpool player has just dropped biggest transfer hint yet

The Athletic reported in July that Xherdan Shaqiri has told Liverpool that he wants to leave.

Five Premier League starts for the Swiss attacker under Jurgen Klopp last season has reportedly seen the player try to secure an exit.

And with Lazio heavily rumoured to be interested, it seems like Shaqiri leaving Liverpool is a distinct possibility.

Then again, he has also just said this about next season, via the club’s official website:

“I’m looking forward to the new season and hopefully we’re going to achieve what we want to achieve with this club. Our goal is always to win, to play for titles and to give 100 per cent on the pitch. Then we will see what happens. But, of course, we’re going to try everything to win. “

Hint?

Based on these comments, however, the 29-year-old has no plans on leaving Liverpool anytime soon.

Remember, Shaqiri looked far more likely to leave Merseyside last summer and still wound up staying for the 2020-21 campaign after snubbing a late chance to go.

That goes to show that you can never really be sure of anything regarding the former Bayern Munich winger until the transfer window has officially shut.

It’s also worth pointing out that staying at Liverpool wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

There’s far worse squad players out there than somebody with 96 caps for his country and with the Reds having a lot of games again this season, rotation will be key.

C’mon, are Liverpool really going to sign a better utility player than Shaqiri if he goes?

There’s very little transfer activity going on at Anfield and Neil Jones of Goal.com reported last week that people inside the club are looking upon next summer as a major one for arrivals.
