If rumours are to be believed, Liverpool are actively trying to get Fabinho tied down to a new deal.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on his podcast this week that the Brazilian’s agents are waiting on a call from the Reds’ hierarchy to speed up the process.
That’ll be brilliant news if and when Liverpool announce it – but it’ll be even better if it comes out that the same negotiations are ongoing with regards to Gini Wijnaldum.
For whatever reason, there’s been virtually nothing written about Wijnaldum extending his contract on Merseyside in recent months.
And that’s a big problem because the Netherlands international – heavily linked with a move to Barcelona this past summer – will be available to leave on a Bosman in around nine months.
January is only two months away and it’s possible that Liverpool will be forced to either sell Wijnaldum on the cheap this winter or risk him losing him for absolutely nothing next summer.
The worrying thing is, it looks like we’re heading toward that exact scenario.
The silence with regards to a potential extension is deafening and it looks, for now, like he won’t be signing anything.
Worse yet, Wijnaldum turns 30 next week and at his age, Liverpool won’t be recouping much of the £25 million they spent on bringing him to Anfield from Newcastle in 2016.
As things stand, a January exit is very likely.
