Back in 2018, Liverpool completed the signing of a 16-year-old named Billy Koumetio from US Orleans, following a successful trial as Goal stated.

Two years down the line, and the teenager is yet to make an appearance for the first-team.

That isn’t a dig at Jurgen Klopp, not at all. There was previously no reason why such an inexperienced player should be immediately thrusted into the first-team, especially with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Fabinho and, formerly, Dejan Lovren, in the squad.

However, all but one of those names are now either injured, or no longer at the club.

The Premier League champions have suffered unbelievably bad luck with injuries having lost Van Dijk, Fabinho and now Gomez after his knee injury on England duty.

However, this could now be Koumetio’s time to shine.

Of course, Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams are ahead of him in the pecking order.

However, Klopp will be keen not to lose anymore of his already-slim options, so rotation will be on the agenda.

All of a sudden, Koumetio has been thrust further and further up the pecking order, to the point where he could be handed some first-team minutes by Klopp if Liverpool are cruising and the German wants to rest Matip, Phillips or Williams.
