Marcelo Bielsa made a surprise selection for Leeds United on Tuesday night.
Leeds welcomed Crystal Palace to Elland Road and ultimately got a 1-0 win, thanks to a last-minute Raphinha penalty.
Everybody of a Whites persusassion inside the stadium would’ve been absolutely buzzing with the game overall.
Well, almost everybody.
One person who was probably a little miffed was Rodrigo.
The Spanish attacker, who earns £120,000 per week in West Yorkshire, joined Leeds as a striker but has found himself used as a number 10 more often than not.
When Patrick Bamford got injured in September, Rodrigo could’ve been forgiven for thinking that this was finally his chance to showcase his talents as a number nine.
Well, that hasn’t happened and it’s never going to happen.
That’s because Bielsa deployed Tyler Roberts in that role against the Eagles on Tuesday night.
Roberts has been an attacking midfielder throughout Bielsa’s stint at Leeds, so the fact that he rates the Wales international higher as a focal point pretty much speaks volumes.
Rodrigo, at £30 million, was Leeds’ biggest signing of all time in 2020, but Bielsa clearly doesn’t know what to do with him, benching him again this week.
And with January on the horizon, nobody would begrudge the 30-year-old if he wanted to leave United.
