Celtic confirmed the signing of Vasilis Barkas this afternoon.

The former AEK Athens star will be the Hoops’ first-choice goalkeeper next season as Neil Lennon’s side chase 10 Premiership titles in a row.

Barkas has been signed after Fraser Forster snubbed a return to Celtic – and the big man might just be regretting that in a big way now.

When it was first reported by The Scottish Sun that Forster wasn’t returning to Parkhead, the Southampton fringe player had options apparently.

Surprisingly, Arsenal and Chelsea were linked with signing the 32-year-old, who doesn’t seem to have much future with the Saints by virtue of the fact he was allowed join the Bhoys on loan last summer.

But with Emi Martinez emerging as a quite-brilliant keeper for the Gunners, ensuring there’s no need for them to sign another, and the speculation about joining Chelsea going cold, Forster might be stuck at St Mary’s.

A return to Celtic would’ve guaranteed him first-team football and probably the chance to make history.

Instead, Forster, a £10 million signing from the Hoops in 2014, might be back to square one: out of the frame at Southampton and yet nowhere to go.
