Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to Olympique Marseille being hit with a transfer ban by FIFA.
L’Équipe report (via GFFN) that the Ligue 1 club have been hit with the ban following Pape Gueye’s four-month suspension for signing a contract with Watford before joining Marseille in 2020 – the club has appealed the ban.
This could have a significant impact on someone like Arsenal because they have two players out on loan.
Mattéo Guendouzi and William Saliba are the players out in France, with Marseille having the option to buy the hard-hitting midfielder at the end of the season, as reported by Sky Sports.
But the question that still remains is will they will be able to sign the Arsenal player? If not, it has certainly got the Gooners excited.
Given that the transfer ban has seemingly been put in place after the loan and option to buy was agreed, then it might be a case of Marseille still being able to buy Guendouzi.
But Arsenal fans are hoping that’s not the case and it throws a spanner in the works.
Even though the France international has seemingly had a falling out with Mikel Arteta, some see this as a way back for the ball-carrying player.
If that’s the case, then he would possibly be an instant upgrade on a number of Arsenal midfielders, including summer purchase, Albert Sambi Lokonga.
But all of that is still up in the air, although, one thing is for sure, Saliba is expected to make a return in the summer.
It’s just a case of what Arteta will do with him because he surely has to be ready to break into Arsenal’s XI now?
