The Brighton & Hove Albion boss will face old club Tottenham Hotspur again next season.
Brighton manager Chris Hughton
Just a day after clinching promotion to the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion, Chris Hughton was already thinking about Tottenham Hotspur.
A product of Spurs’ youth system Hughton spent 13 years a player at White Hart Lane, returning to coach the club for another 14 after hanging up his boots.
The 58-year-old spent much of his second spell serving as a number 2, but is now a successful boss in his own right, with this his second ascension out of the Championship.
And there are no prizes for guessing which club he wants to face first in next season’s top flight.
“I’m hoping the first game is here at the Amex – preferably against Tottenham,” Hughton admitted.
Brighton need only to better Newcastle United’s result this weekend to secure the title, while Tottenham closed the gap on Chelsea to four points over Easter.

The Irishman added: “And hopefully, that will be the winners of the Championship against the winners of the Premier League.”
Hughton’s comments have drawn a warm response from the Spurs faithful, with one even keen to see him back at the Lane in the unlikely event that manager Mauricio Pochettino should leave.
