Rhys Williams has become a more important player for Liverpool in recent weeks due to Virgil van Dijk’s injury.

The Dutchman was ruled out for the season last month and the 19-year-old academy prospect has seen his game time increase as a result of the reduced options at centre-back.

But with Joe Gomez sidelined for the foreseeable future too, Liverpool might just rely on Williams a lot more now.

Williams, who has impressed in the Champions League recently, offered a glimpse into his undeniable talent with a fine performance for England Under-21s on Friday night.

Molineux played host as the Young Lions beat Andorra 3-1 and the Liverpool youngster was among the game’s stand-out plays.

Yes, it’s only Andorra Under-21s and he is more likely to face far better sides in the Premier League and Champions League.

But still, it was a lovely, composed performance from Williams and here’s how Liverpool fans are reacting to it on Twitter:

The good news for Jurgen Klopp is that Fabinho is due back after the international break, while Joel Matip already made his return from injury against Manchester City last week.

But Klopp is still going to be naming the likes of Williams and Nat Phillips in his matchday squads a lot more often and who knows, his emergence could be a major silver lining here.
