Steven Bergwijn might’ve dropped a hint on Instagram about making his return for Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.
Out-of-form Spurs host Aston Villa in North London today.
Bergwijn has been out injured since the 2-2 draw with Rennes in Europa Conference League action last month.
When the Dutch winger was fit, Tottenham won their first three of their Premier League games with him.
Without him, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have lost their last three.
That right there illustrates his importance to the cause but Bergwijn – a £25 million signing by Jose Mourinho – uploaded a cryptic post on social media which included an hourglass emoji, suggesting something is imminent.
Here’s how some Lilywhites fans are reacting on Twitter:
Bergwijn isn’t going to solve all of Spurs’ problems if he does make his return today.
But this is clearly someone who Nuno likes a lot, evident by how much he played him early on.
And therefore you have to respect the fact that the Portuguese coach has been without one of his big players in recent weeks.
There’s a lot to dislike about the former PSV winger – namely his finishing – but by the same token, there’s a lot to admire and although he isn’t a world beater, he can certainly make things happen and that’s precisely what Tottenham have been missing; creativity.
