Everton need a focal point up front and, somehow, Oumar Niasse appears to be their only genuine option.
Oumar Niasse bailed out Everton manager Ronald Koeman big time with a pair of goals to see off Bournemouth on Saturday.
However, unless the Dutchman is willing to lean on Niasse on a more permanent basis, those strikes only delayed Koeman’s problems.
It is blatantly clear that an Everton side who have for so long relied on Romelu Lukaku look much better with a central striker as a focal point up front.
Unfortunately, Koeman failed to note this sufficiently as his summer spending spree saw Wayne Rooney brought in as the main man in attack – a player whose game now is vastly different to that which is required.
Koeman made no secret of his intention to bring in a forward in the closing stages of the window, but it is completely baffling that such a signing was not his top priority.
Instead, now, the Everton boss is facing the prospect of Niasse – whose best scoring season in Europe saw him net 12 goals for a Turkish side some four years ago – becoming a key man at Goodison Park.
Niasse deserves credit for taking his chance, but Koeman’s failure to see beyond Everton’s promising early performances, and realise the important of a striker signing, could prove costly.
