Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has been ruled out for the rest of the season after picking up an injury on loan.
The 21-year-old came off injured in the first half of Hertha Berlin’s win over Freiburg on Thursday night.
The Bundesliga club confirmed at the time that it was an injury-related substitution.
And now it has been confirmed by the Arsenal loanee himself that his season has been brought to a premature end with a fractured foot.
Guendouzi has dazzled on loan in Germany’s top flight and scored some stunning goals after being exiled by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.
But with Arteta’s stock low among Arsenal fans, the player’s has increased due to friction between the pair.
Here’s how some fans of the North London club reacted on Twitter to his setback.
There’s a silver lining here for the Arsenal fans who want to see Guendouzi stay at the Premier League club for the long term.
With him picking up a foot injury three weeks before the transfer window opens, there won’t be many clubs banging down the Gunners’ door to sign him.
Well, this wouldn’t have been the case even if he stayed fit, but no club is going to sign an injured player until they see how he recovers from the absence.
Guendouzi joined the London Colney side for £8 million in the summer of 2018 during Unai Emery’s reign.
