Andros Townsend told talkSPORT that ‘other than Arsenal’ he has happy seeing other British teams progress in Europe.
Given that Townsend came through the ranks at Tottenham, and played for them for a number of years, it’s no surprise that he wants Arsenal to fall at the Slavia Prague hurdle.
In the Champions League, two English sides have already progressed, whilst Manchester United and Arsenal are flying the English flag in the Europa League.
Nonetheless, Townsend, shared that he would like to see his old boss, Mauricio Pochettino go all the way in the Champions League this term before making his Arsenal claim.
“It’s a difficult one, because other than Arsenal, I do like seeing the British sides progressing in the Champions/Europa League,” said Townsend.
“But, for me, the agro he (Poch) has had to deal with over the years about not winning trophies, blah, blah, blah. He cannot win a trophy.
“I think he deserves it more than anybody else. Let’s not forget he got rid of me at Spurs.
“This isn’t me being an ex-Spurs darling or being a teacher’s pet to Pochettino. This is a man who got rid of me. But I know how good a manager he is.”

When the final ball is kicked this season, West Ham might find themselves to be the top dogs of London, which hasn’t happened for a pretty long while.
They are currently leading the charge in the Premier League table, whilst Arsenal are above only newly-promoted Fulham and Crystal Palace.
Therefore, anything but winning the Europa League will be met with a pretty angry reaction from the fans.
